Getting your pet familiar with a doctor is just as important as doing the same for a reluctant child or spouse. Just because they seem healthy doesn't mean they're absent an underlying problem that can be caught and addressed earlier at a lower cost and with greater chances of success. We offer a wide range of veterinary services, including routine exams, vaccinations, behavioral and nutritional consults.
Regular ongoing appointments allow us as their humans to better monitor their overall health and document any subtle changes that we may just get used to seeing day in and day out. Our pets don't have a way to express ongoing discomfort like arthritis and regular exams allow your doctor to examine, witness, and treat these issues before they become mood-changing for your pet.
Giving your cat and/or dog ongoing medication to prevent fleas, ticks, or heartworm is an integral part of their ongoing health. While you may have an indoor-only cat like I do, fleas and ticks can still make it into your house (via you or a guest's shoes, pants, or another pet that goes outdoors for potty breaks, etc). Heartworm infections can oftentimes be deadly, especially if undetected. It's better for them and for us to prevent the heartache from infection.
Because our pets can't express their issues to us, bloodwork becomes an important way for your pet's doctor to evaluate their overall health. Like humans, your pet's blood offers a window into their overall health and allows for early detection of potential issues before they become large and costly.
Vaccines are a proven way to avoid preventable diseases. Keeping your pet up to date helps ensure they'll be at their healthiest for a long, long time. Overall, they are one of the cheapest ways to keep your pet healthy.
Sometimes, a pet just isn't in the mood to complete an exam on their doctor's schedule. When that happens, a fear free doctor will allow the pet room to acclimate, rather than force the pet to comply against their will, like some clinics or doctors. Sometimes, that acclimation includes stopping altogether and rebooking to complete the exam. A happy pet whose needs are respected creates a better long-term relationship between your pet and their doctor. Your pet will no longer fear their doctor, because they learn very quickly that their doctor will allow them time for buy-in and agreement.
